WorldCom filed for Chapter 11 protection under the U. S. Bankruptcy Code on Sunday, July 21, 2002. The WorldCom bankruptcy will be by far the largest in U. S. history. According to the Wall Street Journal, the action will "almost certainly" wipe out the investments of share holders.
